How do you play Describe Me?

Describe Me is a couples game where one partner describes the other out loud for a full round — to a stranger, to their friends, at their best, at their worst — while the subject stays silent until the round ends. Then the roles swap. It runs 15 to 30 minutes and works over video call.

How to play

  1. One of you is the subject for a full round. The other describes.
  2. The subject does not respond until the round is over. No interrupting, no correcting.
  3. Eight to ten cards, then swap.
  4. The describer has to actually answer — "you know what you are like" is not allowed.
  5. React at the end, not during.

Why couples love this game

Being described by someone who knows you well is a genuinely unusual experience. Most compliments are one line in passing; this is ten minutes of sustained attention, and it includes the parts that are not compliments, which is what makes the compliments credible.

Almost nobody knows how their partner would describe them. You know they like you. You do not know which three words they would pick, or what they say about you when you are not there.

This game asks them to say it out loud. Each card is a framing — describe me to a stranger, to your best friend, in five years, at my worst — and your partner has to actually answer.

It is one of the warmest games on the site and also one of the most exposing, because a few of these cards ask for the honest version rather than the nice one.

Example questions

  • Describe me to someone who has never met me, including how I look when I want you.
  • Describe me in three words. No hedging.
  • What do you say about me to your friends?
  • What did you say about me to your family the first time?
  • What is the first thing you notice about my face when I walk in?
  • What do you think is my best quality?

The full game has 40 of these, shuffled every time you play.

Tips to make it better

  • No interrupting. The subject stays quiet until the round ends. This is the rule that makes it work.
  • Deflecting a compliment ruins it. Just take it.
  • The critical cards need honesty. A round of pure flattery is worth much less.
  • Whoever goes second has it harder. Alternate who starts if you replay it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the subject have to stay quiet?

Because the reflex is to deflect, and deflecting stops the describer halfway through. Staying silent for the whole round is uncomfortable for about two cards and then becomes the best part.

Are all the prompts compliments?

No, deliberately. Several ask for blind spots and things to be careful about. A round of pure flattery is pleasant and completely unconvincing.

What if my partner is not good at this?

Then this is the game they need. Prompts do the work for people who find spontaneous compliments difficult, which is most people.
