How do you play The Texting Game?
The Texting Game is a deck of 48 prompts short enough to send as a single message, each self-contained so it survives a reply gap of ten seconds or ten hours. One partner sends a prompt, the other answers whenever they see it, then they swap. Built for long distance and large time differences.
How to play
- Draw a card and send it to your partner as a message.
- Wait. There is no time limit and no penalty for a slow reply.
- Answer theirs when you get it, then send the next one.
- One card at a time. Sending three at once turns it into a questionnaire.
- A card a day works well for a bad time difference.
Why couples love this game
It fixes the "good morning / how was your day / goodnight" loop that long-distance texting collapses into. Because each prompt is self-contained, the game survives a six-hour reply gap β which no other format on this site does.
Most couple games fall apart over text. They assume a live back-and-forth, and a question that takes four hours to get answered stops being a game.
Every prompt here is written to survive that. Each one fits in a single message, needs no context from the previous card, and works whether the reply comes in ten seconds or the next morning.
It is the best thing on the site for a bad time difference, a busy week, or a relationship that is currently mostly conducted through a keyboard.
Example questions
- What are you wearing right now? Be more specific than you want to be.
- Send me a photo of your mouth, your neck, or your collarbone. No face required.
- If I were there, where would you want to be kissed first?
- Finish this and do not make it polite: I keep thinking aboutβ¦
- What would you want me to whisper if I was standing right behind you?
- Send the last photo you took. No explanation, even if it is boring.
The full game has 48 of these, shuffled every time you play.
Who this game is best for
- Long distance with a big time difference
- Busy weeks where a call is not happening
- New couples still mostly texting
- Anyone whose messages have gone flat
Tips to make it better
- One at a time. This is the only rule that matters.
- Answer the prompt properly before sending the next one back.
- The photo cards are the best ones. Use them more.
- Do not send the spicier ones without knowing where your partner is and who can see their screen.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play a texting game with your partner?
Draw a prompt, send it as a message, and wait. There is no time limit and no penalty for a slow reply. Answer theirs when it arrives, then send the next one. One at a time is the only rule that matters.
How many should I send at once?
One. Sending several turns a game into a form, and your partner will answer the last one and ignore the rest.
Does this work with a big time difference?
It is the reason the deck exists. One card a day works fine when there is no hour you are both awake and free.
