How do you play Drinking Games for Couples?
Drinking games for couples need a two-player mechanic, since most party games collapse below four. This one reads a statement and both partners drink if it applies to them, tallying matches. Rounds where only one drinks earn the other a single follow-up question. It works equally well without alcohol.
How to play
- Read the card. Both of you drink if it applies.
- Tap what you each did. The tally tracks how often you matched.
- When only one of you drinks, the other gets one follow-up question.
- Nobody has to explain a drink. That is the deal.
- Stop whenever. There is no winner.
Why couples love this game
The one-sided rounds are the entire game. When you both drink it is a shared laugh and it passes; when only one of you does, there is a follow-up question hanging in the air that neither of you had to be the one to ask.
Almost every drinking game needs a group. Ring of Fire with two people is a card sort; Beer Pong with two is just throwing. The two-player versions have to work differently.
These do. Each card is a statement, you both drink if it applies to you, and the interesting rounds are the ones where only one of you drinks β which is the same mechanic as Never Have I Ever, sharpened.
It works completely without alcohol. The tally is the game; the drink is just the scoreboard.
Example questions
- Drink if you have thought about kissing me today and not done it.
- Drink if you have a favourite part of my body you have never named.
- Drink if you have ever undressed me in your head in a public place.
- Drink if you have replayed a kiss of ours later, alone.
- Drink if you have ever almost got us caught.
- Drink if you have wanted me in a hotel and not said so.
The full game has 40 of these, shuffled every time you play.
Who this game is best for
- A night in with a bottle of something
- Pre-drinks before going out
- Groups, where it works even better
- Video calls
Tips to make it better
- Nobody explains a drink unless they want to. Enforce that or people stop being honest.
- One follow-up per one-sided round, then move on.
- Please pace it. The deck has twenty-two cards and no prizes.
- Works entirely dry β the tally is the actual game.
Frequently asked questions
What drinking games work with only two people?
Statement-based ones. Anything needing a circle, a deck to deplete, or a group to point at falls apart with two β but "drink if this applies to you" works perfectly and produces the same tension.
Can we play without drinking?
Yes. The tally of who matched is the actual game, and it is identical whether the marker is a drink or a tap on a screen.
Do we have to explain why we drank?
No, and that rule matters. One follow-up is allowed on a one-sided round; beyond that, nobody owes an explanation.
