How do you play Song Lyric Challenge?
The Song Lyric Challenge restricts couples to speaking only in real song lyrics for a timed round, alternating turns with no repeating an artist. Hesitating beyond five seconds or inventing a lyric loses the round. Themed rounds require lyrics containing a colour, a name, a number, or a place.

- Read the round and start the timer.
- Alternate. Every line must be a real lyric.
- No repeating an artist within a round.
- Hesitate for more than five seconds, or make one up, and you lose the round.
- Swap who goes first each time.
Why couples love this game
It exposes a genuinely strange gap between what you know and what you can retrieve. Everybody is confident going in, and everybody blanks on the third line — and the songs each of you reaches for under pressure say a surprising amount about what you actually grew up on.
The rule is simple and immediately impossible: for the length of the round, you may only speak in song lyrics. Real ones, sung or said, and you cannot repeat an artist.
What happens is that both of you discover you know about four hundred lyrics and can retrieve none of them under time pressure, which is the entire entertainment.
Some rounds have a theme, some are freeform, and one requires you to hold an actual conversation entirely in lyrics — which nobody manages for long.
