How do you play Pillow Talk?

Pillow Talk is a couples game of short, intimate questions designed to be read in the dark before sleep. One partner reads a card off a dimmed screen and puts the phone face down while both answer. Five or six cards is a full session — the deck is not meant to be finished.

How to play

  1. Lights off or very low. Phone brightness right down.
  2. One person reads a card, then puts the phone face down.
  3. Both answer. Take your time — there is nowhere to be.
  4. Do not do more than five or six. This is not a deck to finish.
  5. The last card is a good place to stop.

Why couples love this game

Because the format is doing something real. The reason difficult things get said at 1am is that the dark removes the audience — and a question deck designed for exactly that hour takes advantage of it rather than fighting it. Most couples find these answers come out easier than the same questions at breakfast.

People tell the truth differently in the dark. No eye contact, no daylight, nobody going anywhere — it is the one time of day when the difficult sentence is easy to say.

This deck is built for that window. The questions are intimate rather than explicit, and they are short, because nobody wants to parse a paragraph at midnight.

One person reads it off a dimmed screen, then puts the phone face down. That last part matters more than you would think.

Example questions

  • Where do you want my hands while we talk — your waist, your thigh, the back of your neck?
  • What is something you wanted to do to me earlier that you saved for the dark?
  • If I kissed your collarbone right now, would you keep answering or forget the question?
  • What part of me are you most aware of with the lights off?
  • What would you want whispered against your ear before either of us falls asleep?
  • When did you first want me in a bed like this — not love me, want me?

The full game has 40 of these, shuffled every time you play.

Who this game is best for

  • The half hour before sleep
  • Couples who talk best late
  • Long-distance calls at the end of the day
  • Any night that needs winding down rather than up

Tips to make it better

  • Five or six cards maximum. This is a wind-down, not a session.
  • Phone face down between cards. The glow ruins it.
  • Do not raise anything that needs solving. Save that for daylight.
  • It works on a late call — neither of you needs to be looking at anything.

Frequently asked questions

What are good questions to ask your partner before bed?

Short ones. At midnight nobody wants to unpack a paragraph — "what are you thinking about right now?" and "what did you want to say earlier and did not?" get further than anything more elaborate.

Is this a spicy game?

It is 🔥 flirty — intimate rather than explicit. Spicy Questions is the 🌶️ deck if that is what you are after.

Should we do the whole deck?

No. Five or six cards and then stop. Working through twenty questions at 1am turns a wind-down into an activity.
